Artist Statement

What happens when the heart can no longer protect what it has been hiding?

In When the Heart Could No Longer Hide, a glowing eye emerges from a heart-shaped opening carved into darkness. The heart becomes both a sanctuary and a witness—holding the truths, emotions, memories, and wounds that were once kept beneath the surface.

The eye symbolizes the moment of emotional awakening, when what has been buried can no longer remain unseen. It is the part of the self that knows, even when the mind tries to deny, excuse, or look away.

The surrounding darkness represents the inner terrain we often avoid: grief, longing, intuition, and the quiet truths we carry alone. Yet within that darkness, the eye remains illuminated, suggesting that even hidden emotions contain their own light.

This piece speaks to the moment when the heart stops hiding and begins to reveal what it has always known.
