The work centers on the idea that emotional upheaval does not always announce itself. Sometimes the most powerful storms exist beneath composure, silence, beauty, or restraint. The tempest becomes a symbol for everything that has been held back too long—grief, anger, intuition, fear, memory, and the pressure of truths that can no longer remain contained.
The raven carries a more complex role. Traditionally associated with intelligence, mystery, transformation, and the unseen, it becomes a witness within the piece rather than a symbol of darkness alone. Its presence suggests heightened awareness: the instinctive part of the self that recognizes a change before the conscious mind is ready to accept it. The raven sees what has been avoided. It becomes the quiet messenger of truths that refuse to stay buried.
The veil represents the boundary between appearance and inner reality. It can protect, conceal, beautify, or obscure.
